The Fraternitas Islandica (Icelandic Brotherhood) is an automatic mechanical watch, meticulously crafted at the request of the Icelandic Freemason organization. Rooted in tradition and laden with symbolic significance, this timepiece stands as a testament to the timeless values of brotherhood, integrity, and enlightenment.
Central to the Fraternitas Islandica is a striking white glossy dial, adorned with silver-raced numerals that reflect the sacred teachings of Freemasonry. A vivid red Knights Templar cross graces the dial, symbolizing unity and fraternity. The watch's design is replete with symbolism, inviting discovery and interpretation by those versed in its mysteries.
Encased in robust steel with a 38.5mm diameter, the Fraternitas Islandica features a Swiss-made 'Execution Top' mechanical movement. This includes automatic winding, 25 jewels, and blue screws, all showcased through a sapphire crystal case back that reveals the rhodium-plated finish and the precision of its craftsmanship.
The dial's unique numeral arrangement denotes different degrees within the Masonic hierarchy, with special emblems like the RK (Riddara Kross) at the 11th hour and markers at 4 and 5 are positioned closer together, symbolizing that in Icelandic Freemasonry, steps 4 and 5 are taken simultaneously. The crown is distinguished by a red Knights Templar cross, symbolising dedication to Masonic principles, and flame-blued hands remind wearers of the continuous quest for knowledge.
Drawing inspiration from the Icelandic national flag, the colours of the Fraternitas Islandica’s face and hands, red, white, and blue not only pay tribute to its origins but also embody the universal tenets of Freemasonry.
