The
Islandus watch is dedicated to the man Sölvi Helgason (Solon
Islandus) born 16. Aug. 1820 died 27, Nov. 1895.
Sölvi was a man who dared to take the risk of living his
dreams. He dreamt of becoming the greatest man in Iceland. Despite
his hopeless situation he was determined to make his dreams
come true.
Sölvi was a romantic painter and scientist,
his creations came alive in his mind. He wrote poetry and layed
the foundation of his own philosophy.
Sölvi
traveled to Scandinavia but the trip was made on the governments
expense (he went to prison in Denmark). When he came home from
his “vacation” he considered himself a traveled
man of distinction and from that day called himself Solon Islandus
His paintings are now kept at the Icelandic National Gallery
and are becoming more and more appreciated like our watches
perhaps?
